About the Project
Imagining Ageing Futures is a collaborative project exploring growing old(er) on one's own terms, in one's own words.
It brings together LGBTQ+ multicultural people to reflect on their experiences and imaginations of ageing in Australia. This virtual exhibition features their photographs and words, revealing stories of struggle and triumph, of uncertainty and becoming. The works demonstrate a deliberate carving out of space and time in an often hostile world. They gesture to a future that is both 'not-quite-here' and already glimpsed through moments and encounters. Together, they invite the viewer to re-imagine what ageing is, could and should be.
Imagining Ageing Futures is part of a broader research study exploring LGBTQ+ multicultural ageing in Australia. The study has been approved by the Flinders University Social and Behavioural Research Ethics Committee.
